Stereolab has been making eccentric lounge pop since the 1990s. Members of the group (or “groop,” as they like to be called) hail from England and France, and write music with a political sensibility. Mars Audiac Quintet (1994) includes a song criticizing conservative economic theory. And Stereolab’s 1997 opus Dots and Loops addresses the too easy slide into creature comforts and the niceties of modern life. The groop takes the stage at the historic Henry Miller Memorial Library in Big Sur, playing alongside the experimental pop duo Fievel is Glauque. Look forward to an evening of cheeky Marxist song lyrics and decadent Moog-powered grooves. —Sophie Kemp
