Paging Suni Williams! In Jennifer Walshe and Mark O’Connell’s new Mars, an all-female foursome of astronauts plus an A.I. software interface shares a cabin on a nine-month mission to the Red Planet. “As they journey across the vast abyss of space, tensions rise, relationships are tested, seasons of Real Housewives are watched and re-watched.” Upon arrival, the crew confronts “isolation, sinister ideologies, the prospect of alien life, and a vibe-shift toward corporate authoritarianism.” The marketing copy drops buzzwords like space colonization, reactionary futurism, pronatalism, and hustle culture. (The Irish Times informs us that Walshe is “the most original compositional voice to emerge from Ireland in the past 20 years.” —Matthew Gurewitsch
