Sergio Larrain: Londres

Oct 22 – Nov 1, 2020
79 Rue des Archives, 75003 Paris, France

When the Chilean photographer Sergio Larrain spent four months in London during the winter of 1958-1959, the tone of the city hit him hard. He was feeling the postwar passing of England’s power, the end of London as the “capital of an ancient and vast colonial empire.” Larrain’s black-and-white photographs embody the atmosphere of a misted city riven with damp and dismay. Fog lays a grey veil over the streets and citizens. —E.C.
