Seeing Picasso: Maker of the Modern

Nov 2, 2019 – Feb 16, 2020
229 Hamilton Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94301, United States

“Others have seen what is and asked why,” said Pablo Picasso. “I have seen what could be and asked why not.” Cubism, Surrealism, Neo-Expressionism, African influence, collage—Picasso was a palpable force in all these movements. In the first monographic exhibition on Picasso in the Bay Area in almost a decade, 35 key works will trace his breakthroughs and milestones, step by step. As the artist famously said, “The world today doesn’t make sense, so why should I paint pictures that do?” —E.C.
