The rarely used musical term cascando means “a diminuendo in volume and/or tempo.” It should come as no surprise that the playwright Samuel Beckett liked the term. In 1961, he used it as the title for a script he envisioned as a radio play. The Dublin-based Pan Pan Theatre, however, envisions that play as a walk. Directed by Gavin Quinn, the New York production of Cascando will take place throughout Greenwich Village. Audience members are sent on a stroll wearing cloaks and headphones, listening to the play against the backdrop of the city. There will be 44 performances, starting in late June. What is the play about? Creativity. Art. —Sophie Kemp
