“The first album I ever bought with my own money was by Gorillaz, and still today it’s one of my favorite pieces of art,” said the electronic pop artist Oklou in 2018. A classically trained cellist, pianist, and choir singer, her foundational teenage influence—Damon Albarn’s genre-hopping virtual band—can be felt in this year’s Choke Enough, the young French musician’s deeply immersive debut studio album, released in February. (In a glowing review, Pitchfork described the record as “a twilit fusion of Y2K worship, Baroque polyphony, and elegant, opaque ambiance.”) During her promotion of the LP, Oklou performed a session of three songs for premiere independent radio station NTS on an ice skating rink—a true musical highlight of 2025. On Friday, November 7, Pitchfork Festival London is hosting Oklou at Roundhouse in Chalk Farm, which is sure to be one of the city’s essential shows this fall. —Spike Carter
