Pierre-Laurent Aimard in recital at the Louvre: Univers parallèles

February 13, 2026
Musée du Louvre Cour Napoléon et Pyramide du, Pl. des Pyramides, 75001 Paris, France

Half a century ago, Pierre Boulez invited the uniquely gifted 19-year-old pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard to join the Ensemble Intercontemporain, established to test the experiments of the most challenging music minds of the age. Over the half century that followed, Aimard gained an unparalleled insight into their ideas, techniques, and sound. His récital exceptionnel at the Louvre includes premieres of 10 new pieces by as many composers, each inspired by a work of art from the museum’s encyclopedic collection. Rembrandt, Poussin, Chardin, and Vermeer are among the artists refracted through the sensibilities of Wolfgang Rihm, Gérard Pesson, Hugues Dufourt, Philippe Manoury, and more. Rounding out the program is a selection of miniatures from the characteristically quixotic compendium Jatékók (Games) by the Hungarian mandarin György Kurtág, who turns 100 this year. —Matthew Gurewitsch
