The French love their bande dessinée (comic-strips), a favorite medium for bedtime reading and heavy-hitting investigative journalism alike. So it should come as no surprise that Pablo Picasso, who lived in Paris for most of his adult life, and who was known in part for artistic interests that stretched beyond painting to sculpture, etching, and ceramics, tried his hand at comics, too. The first exhibition dedicated to this aspect of the master’s work consists of drawings, prints, and original plates in the comic-book style. —J.V.
