Peaches is a provocateur. She writes songs that are frank as frank can be about sex and sexuality. She’s dressed in drag; she’s made pornographic music videos. This year is the 20th anniversary of her landmark feminist record The Teaches of Peaches, which feels as urgent as ever. Singing about using sex to take the pain of existence away, she liberates herself to the tune of choppy drum machines and grating synth runs. To celebrate the record, Peaches will take the stage at Avant Gardner, an indoor-outdoor space in Bushwick. —Sophie Kemp
