The Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, an enemy of Augusto Pinochet’s military state, once wrote, “If nothing saves us from death, at least love should save us from life.” Photographer Paz Errázuriz, a fellow Chilean, takes this verse to heart—and to work. Her photographs of marginalized groups—men and women in psychiatric institutions, Trans communities, sex workers, homeless people, and the Kawésqar, an indigenous community under threat—feel more like an ode than an experiment. Rather than keeping her sitters at a distance, Errázuriz immersed herself in their daily lives, capturing them at their most candid. You’ll find 170 paths to salvation in this exhibition at England’s MK Gallery. —Carolina de Armas
