Karolina Maszkiewicz

Karolina Maszkiewicz, The Weight of Light (detail), 2026.

Sept 9 – Oct 24, 2026
58 White Street New York, NY 10013, United States

Born in Northern Poland, Karolina Maszkiewicz moved to Los Angeles in 1995. She has worked as a fashion designer but now makes ethereal sculptures inspired by nature, the greatest of all designers. Seed pods, rosebuds, and other magical structures of flora find their way into pieces both delicate and strong, made of iron and clay. Maszkiewicz counts the great Polish fiber artist Magdalena Abakanowicz as a hero, but given the airy, wandering suspension of her art one also thinks of Alexander Calder, Joan Miró, and Ruth Asawa. “Most of my work is kinetic,” Maszkiewicz said in 2020. “For me, this can help transfix the viewer, creating a space for contemplation and reflection.” The sculptures in this exhibition combine organic and man-made materials. —Laura Jacobs
