There’s a long waiting list for the work of Jean Claracq, the young French artist who’s been called a rising star. Patience will be required. “I have a very slow process, not only in the physical making of the work but also in the process of elaborating it,” Claracq told Galerie magazine last July. “I get my inspiration from questions I have about the world. It can take months to compose a painting, and I can collect materials for an idea for years.” Claracq paints miniatures. He does so in exquisite detail, inspired by 14th-century Flemish and Italian painters, but with effects of color and silhouette that suggest a computerized collage, a frisson of postmodernism. This exhibition at La Fondation presents a series called “Propaganda,” which consists of five new works. —L.J.
