The conceptual artist Olafur Eliasson is concerned with sense experience. “Having an experience is taking part in the world,” he has said. “Taking part in the world is really about sharing responsibility.” In 2003, for his Turbine Hall installation Tate Modern—”The Weather Project”—Eliasson created a burning sun that bathed the space in orange air. In 2016, he brought waterfalls, fog, and mirrors to the Palace of Versailles and erected a large waterfall in its Grand Canal. For his first exhibition in Turkey, the Istanbul Modern has brought together 40 Eliasson works from the last 30 years. It’s a rare opportunity to view his masterpieces across the way from the Maiden’s Tower, on the banks of the wondrous Bosphorus.
