How does love begin? How does it fade? And how is it remembered? These are the questions at the heart of Lost Atoms, a new play by the Succession and One Day writer Anna Jordan. The story follows Jess and Robbie as they make this journey. A 21st-century love story, it begins in a café, where Jess lets Robbie connect to her mobile hotspot. She’s happy-go-lucky; he, less so. They part ways, only to cross paths again at a train station, where Robbie, searching for WiFi, recognizes Jess’s network name. With a shifting timeline and an ever-changing set, the play explores the subjectivity of memory and the fragility of connection. “The story has a familiar trajectory but the couple’s compendium of life moments, from cramped flat to cold hospital room, never feels less than authentic,” writes Chris Wiegand in The Guardian. “Watching this relationship slowly rounded out and then deflated is incredibly moving.” Directed by Scott Graham and celebrating Frantic Assembly’s 30th anniversary, the production is now touring the U.K. —Jeanne Malle
