Georgia O’Keeffe, born in 1887, grew up in Wisconsin. Loie Hollowell, born in 1983, grew up in Northern California. Like O’Keeffe before her, Hollowell uses abstract nature to suggest the human body, especially areas traditionally deemed off limits. A geometric form may evoke a belly or a breast; a biomorphic form may bring to mind a vulva. Hollowell nods to the Light and Space movement—and is, of course, up on Hilma af Klint, Agnes Pelton, and Judy Chicago. She is 41, and this is her first museum exhibition. —Elena Clavarino
