Lee Krasner: Living Color

Sept 18, 2020 – Jan 10, 2021
Abandoibarra Etorb., 2, 48009 Bilbo, Bizkaia, Spain

Combative, caustic, unique, honest, brilliant—these are just a few of the words friends have used to describe the artist Lee Krasner. Often lost in the long shadow cast by her husband, Jackson Pollock, Krasner’s work has been overlooked. Gifted herself, she worked cyclically, revitalizing her practice by refusing to adopt a rigid signature style. Krasner, who died in 1984 at the age of 75, painted for 50 years. This exhibition—organized by Barbican Centre, London, in collaboration with the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao—is the first for Krasner in Spain. Here is the woman who lived at the heart of Abstract Expressionism. —E.C.
