Over the last few decades, Peckham, in London, has become known as Little Lagos—home to one of the largest Nigerian communities in England. It’s also bred a group of promising artists, among them the Turner Prize-nominated Yinka Shonibare and the sculptor Ndidi Dike. This exhibition—curated by Folakunle Oshun, the man behind the monumental Lagos Biennial—features artists from Lagos, such as Emego Okboh, alongside Peckham’s pioneers. “I think it’s more about migration,” Oshun recently told The Art Newspaper, “the embodiment of place and how migrants from any culture and society will go to another part of the world and pitch their tent … and re-enact rituals that remind them of home.” The tent has been pitched and the show is stunning. —Elena Clavarino
