You probably think you already know J. M. W. Turner. His manifestations of elemental power—sky, wind, water—reached states of abstraction and modernity at a time when classicism was paramount. “Light is therefore color,” Turner once said. He also said, enigmatically, “The Sun is God.” This exhibition places his work in an immersive sound environment created by the artist and musician Lamin Fofana. Though the artists were born a century apart, both capture the power and politics of the ocean.
