A forest of tree trunks, stripped smooth and white, stands upon a mathematically precise grid, as serene as a corps de ballet. But as visitors proceed through the forest, the trees are falling, the grid is warping, the environmental dance is disrupted. Which population is in danger—the trees, people, or every living thing? Claudia Comte’s installation asks questions that must be answered. —L.J.
