The French photojournalist Henri Cartier-Bresson followed his lens around the world. He photographed the Spanish elections, the coronation of George VI, and the master of classical dance George Balanchine. Capturing moments of human truth, he never forgot to frame his shots. Cartier-Bresson sought organizing patterns and shapes within urban and natural landscapes, and made background a marvelous enclosure for the wonders he encountered. “Let no one ignorant of geometry enter,” he once said. Toward the end of his life, he made a 70-photograph selection of these paysages. On view here, they speak of Cartier-Bresson the artist, as opposed to Cartier-Bresson the journalist. —Elena Clavarino
