The Mexico City studio of photographer Graciela Iturbide is located at 37 Calle Heliotropo, in the historic center of Coyoacán. It was designed by Mauricio Rocha, her son, and has walls of vertically arranged red bricks and a sleek beamed ceiling. The photographs in the studio are as arresting as the space itself. Iturbide turned to photography after the death of her 6-year-old daughter, and traveled across Mexico, studying the country’s Indigenous cultures, its Catholic practices, and life near the U.S. border. This exhibition features nearly 200 photographs spanning five decades of Iturbide’s career. —Elena Clavarino
