Georgia O'Keeffe

Apr 20 – Aug 8, 2021
Paseo del Prado, 8, 28014 Madrid, Spain

“Men put me down as the best woman painter,” said Georgia O’Keeffe. “I think I’m one of the best painters.” Widely regarded as the “mother of American modernism,” O’Keeffe was known for her looming and luminous flowers, dramatic New Mexico landscapes, bleached skulls, and New York City skylines. Her first-ever retrospective in Spain sees 80 works on display. The exhibition begins with flowers produced between 1910 and 1920—paintings that established O’Keeffe as a pioneer of Abstract Expressionism—and culminates with her mesmerizing desert visions. —E.C.
