Tiffany lamps have been a fixture in interior design since their exhibition debut in 1893, when Clara Driscoll came up with the idea for a colorful glass mosaic shade fused together with copper foil. The allure resides in the originality of each design and the artistry that goes into its creation. Most think of Art Nouveau when they picture a Tiffany lamp, unaware that designs also nodded to the Aesthetic Movement and evolved into abstraction. This exhibition of lamps at Chicago’s Driehaus Museum is curated by Alexandra Ruggiero, who hails from New York’s Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass. The show shines a light on an often overlooked classic. —Hannah Gross
