Doris Brynner embodied elegance and was surrounded by it. Born in Yugoslavia and raised in Chile, she moved to France in the 1950s. Brynner worked in fashion and design, first at Pierre Cardin and Valentino, and then at Dior, where she led the gifts department for over two decades. During that time, Brynner fostered close relationships with Hollywood stars such as Elizabeth Taylor and Frank Sinatra; Audrey Hepburn was her best friend. (And yes, Doris was married to Yul Brynner, from 1960 to 1967.) When Brynner died last February, at 93, she left behind a trove of valuables that speak to her sophisticated style. Highlights include a diamond brooch once owned by Hepburn, a Balenciaga gown, and a Karl Lagerfeld drawing dedicated to Brynner. These beautiful pieces come to auction on January 27. —Maggie Turner
