Frida Kahlo is an artist who has become a legend. Her iconic monobrow. The impaling bus accident. The martyrdom of her health issues. The stormy marriage with the larger-than-life artist Diego Rivera. But there is an intimate story, too. In an exhibition that features more than 200 objects from the Casa Azul, where Kahlo was born and brought up, her personal ephemera tell of a private journey. For example, there are the traditional Tehuana dresses she started wearing as a young woman, and the plaster corsets that supported her damaged spine. After her death in 1954, many of these objects were placed under seal by Rivera. In 2004, they were rediscovered. —Elena Clavarino
