At first glance, Alberto Giacometti (1901–1966) and Giorgio Morandi (1890–1964) seem to have little in common. Giacometti was known for his sculptures, Morandi for his paintings. One cast spindly, elongated figures out of iron; the other rendered stout ceramics and still lifes in soft, chalky tones. Yet both artists captured an eerie quality of haunted sentience. In this exhibition, their work is displayed side by side. Although contemporaries, the two artists never met. —Elena Clavarino
