Francesco Clemente, Beauty Without Witness

Streaming on Lévy Gorvy

“The key image that I had in mind was the image of the shifting line where the water touches the land,” says the artist Francesco Clemente, “the shifting line of separation, the ambiguity of the shore.” He is not just talking about perception and consciousness, but about the art of the watercolor. Clemente continues his relationship with the watercolor in these 12 works, painted during self-isolation at his MacDougal Street home in New York City. Childhood memories, toys, seashells, sky, and lost horizons … dreamscapes from a master. —L.J.
