Located on Giudecca, an island in the Venetian lagoon, the newly renovated Fortuny atelier not only pays serene homage to its founding father, the textile designer Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo, it is part museum, part elegant interactive theater. Fortuny’s one-of-a-kind fabrics, inspired by the exquisite lights and colors of Venice, are hung from rollers attached to the ceiling, so that they unroll and rise up like curtains—a theatrical effect. The Giudecca showroom displays these coveted textiles in other creative ways: in the drawers of bespoke rolling trunks, or arranged as a pillow library of patterns. It’s a beautifully curated celebration of Fortuny, which turned 100 this year. —Thalia Bonas
