The tragic tale of Orpheus and Eurydice remains one of the most gripping in Greek mythology, but it is Orpheus’s story and Eurydice is peripheral. In 2003, the playwright Sarah Ruhl presented an adaptation that shifted the focus and handed the story to Eurydice. On her wedding day, the young bride falls into the underworld, where she is reunited in death with her father, a character invented by Ruhl. Orpheus descends to retrieve her, but this time the failure of their return isn’t entirely on him. The production is directed by Les Waters, and Maya Hawke is Eurydice. —Jeanne Malle
