Erika Verzutti is widely-celebrated in both in her native country of Brazil and across Europe for sculptures that fuse postmodern thought with organic materials. Her first institutional exhibition in America—at Bard’s Hessel Museum of Art—presents 60 sculptures and hanging pieces that highlight her unique style. With cultural references ranging from French modernism and Picasso to Jeff Koons and early Brazilian poetry, every piece is a journey through art history. Verzutti bounces viewers between the Paleolithic era, prewar Paris, contemporary Brazil, and beyond. —Lucy Horowitz
