Doug Aitken

Mar 23 – Aug 4, 2019

“The situation that we’re living in right now,” the artist Doug Aitken said in 2018, “the engineers are developing technology faster than the dialogue of philosophy and ethics [can address] them.” That’s a good place to start when thinking about Aitken’s precise, puzzling, completely absorbing installations and films, unmoored events in which time and space seem out of sync, a new reality inventing itself before us. Aiken’s first solo show in mainland China presents three of his installations, including 3 Modern Figures (don’t forget to breathe). —L.J.
