Delcy Morelos describes herself as “something of an ambassador for Mother Earth, a self-professed healer and sorceress charged with delivering a message about [the earth’s] force, intelligence, and beauty.” Often working with organic materials such as soil and clay, the Columbian artist makes large-scale installations that celebrate the power of the earth and stand against human violence and land abuse. “El oscuro de abajo,” Morelos’s first solo show in France, comes shortly after “El abrazo,” her exhibition at the Dia Art Foundation, in New York. Showcasing one installation made of earth, as well as smaller-scale works made on textiles, natural fibers, and paper, the artist builds her show around ancestral Andean practices. —Jeanne Malle
