Born in 1945, the British artist David Nash spent holidays in the 1950s in Ffestiniog, Wales, where he cleared and replanted a forest by his father’s side, and also had a job with the Commercial Forestry Group. Nash realized early on that planting in orderly rows bothered him—it wasn’t joyous. He went to art school after college and then began working with wood. Still based in Ffestiniog, Nash uses blow torches and axes to create magnificent sculptures; he also shapes living trees. This exhibition presents Nash’s recent sculptures and minimalist drawings. —Elena Clavarino
