Étoile

Amy Sherman-Palladino is a master of television. From Gilmore Girls to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, she’s built a career on humor, heart, and some of the most defining female characters of the 21st century. Alongside her longtime creative partner and husband Daniel Palladino, she now returns with Étoile. The series follows two world-class ballet companies, one in New York and the other in Paris, that swap their top talent in an effort to revive mainstream interest in an art form threatened by budget cuts and an aging audience. This isn’t the couple’s first foray into the world of classical dance—their 2012 series Bunheads took on the subject but was cancelled after just one season. Still, Bunheads didn’t focus on professional dancers. Étoile does, and it comes armed with an exciting cast that includes the Gilmore Girls alum Yanic Truesdale, Mrs. Maisel’s Luke Kirby, and the French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg. —Jeanne Malle
