“A hundred years ago, French author Jules Verne wrote a book about a voyage to the Moon,” the astronaut Neil Armstrong said during a television broadcast on July 23, 1969. He and his crew were in a spaceship, returning to Earth after having walked on the moon. It’s 50 years later and a new exhibition takes its title from Verne’s 1895 novel, From the Earth to the Moon. Celebrating the anniversary of the Moon Landing with art by Marc Chagall, Paul Klee, and Alexander Calder, the show also looks at the moon’s influence on the works of Italian thinkers Dante, Leopardi, and Calvino. —J.V.
