Bosco Sodi: La Fuerza del Destino

Sept 14, 2021 – July 10, 2022
1717 N Harwood St, Dallas, TX 75201, USA

The Mexican artist Bosco Sodi lives between Oaxaca, Mexico, and New York City, and creates large paintings and beguiling sculptures that capture his Mexican heritage while channeling the natural world. In his paintings, Sodi layers raw pigment with sawdust, pulp wood, and natural fibers, building textured surfaces that look like cracked earth viewed from above. For sculptures, Sodi takes dirt from the ground, mixes it with water and sand, and makes clay. The idea? “Controlled chaos,” he once said. “Something that is completely unrepeatable.” The Dallas Museum of Art has arranged 30 Sodi sculptures in its gardens. —E.C.
