A husband and a wife have been torn apart by war. The wife, imprisoned for speaking out against Iran’s oppressive regime, can only see her husband during tightly controlled weekly visits. She persuades him to raise awareness about the regime by helping a woman, blinded by Iranian defense forces, run through the tunnel between France and England during a rare window when no trains are passing. Blind Runner is a two-person play written and directed by Amir Reza Koohestani. Part of the Radar Theater Festival, which showcases experimental theater, the play is performed in Farsi with English supertitles. As Charles Isherwood writes in The Wall Street Journal, Koohestani probes “the sad fragility of all relationships in societies that profit by pitting citizens against one another.” —Jeanne Malle
