“Betty had the same lithe body as he, the same spare frame, the same lean wrists and the same great height,” writes Alicia Drake in her 2006 book The Beautiful Fall. When Yves Saint Laurent met Betty Catroux (she was Betty Saint then) he saw himself in her, and reportedly said, “Just what I love. Long, long, long.” Catroux recently gave the Musée Yves Saint Laurent the huge gift of 180 haute couture creations by Saint Laurent, along with ready-to-wear garments and accessories. Using about 50 of these pieces, Anthony Vaccarello, the current artistic director of YSL, has curated an exhibition that looks at the aesthetic synergy between the two androgynous style icons. —L.J.
