Honoring the “Father of American Ballet,” the Washington Ballet has put together a rich repertory program of ballets by George Balanchine. In Concerto Barocco, set to Bach in 1941, we see the choreographer acting as God’s watchmaker, creating a ballet of the spheres. Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux, made in 1960, is a giddy showstopper. Apollo, Balanchine’s breakthrough ballet of 1928, shows the young god playing with three muses and then ascending to his place in the heavens. And Theme and Variations (1947), well it’s The Sleeping Beauty viewed through a prism. This program presents the master in all his neoclassical glory. It’s a don’t miss! —Laura Jacobs
