Artis Quartet with Adrian Erőd

May 20, 2020
Musikvereinsplatz 1, 1010 Wien, Austria

Though little known to the general public, among musicians in his adopted Vienna the Hungarian-born pianist, composer, and professor of composition, Iván Erőd, was a force to be reckoned with. Coming up on the first anniversary of his death, his song cycle for baritone and quartet “Canti di un Ottantenne” (Songs of an Octogenarian) receives its world premiere at the estimable Musikverein. The soloist is the composer’s son Adrian Erőd, a fixture at the Vienna State Opera, renowned as Mozart’s Papageno, Britten’s Billy Budd, Rossini’s Figaro, and lately Wagner’s trickster god Loge (a tenor role) in Das Rheingold. —M.G.
