Antony Gormley

Sept 21 – Dec 3, 2019
Burlington House, Piccadilly, Mayfair, London W1J 0BD, United Kingdom

The British sculptor Antony Gormley is invested in infinite space. He’s also focused on the human body—how it inhabits space, and connects with the infinite. For the looming installations that fill Gormley’s retrospective at the Royal Academy, he has used imposing industrial and organic materials—iron, steel, hand-beaten lead, seawater and clay. The final effect? A sense of anxiety, mixed with intrigue. The show includes works that have rarely been seen since the 1970s and 80s. —E.C.
