American Artist: My Blue Window

Oct 9, 2019 – Feb 16, 2020
New York City Building, Corona, NY 11368, United States

Last year, the ACLU tested facial-recognition software on Congress and the results were troubling: of the members whose faces falsely matched mug shots, 40 percent were of color. In this multi-media exhibition, American Artist—a person who legally changed their name to avoid detection and surveillance—exposes the racism that hides behind the soft blue light of our screens, and visualizes anti-blackness as a virus infecting technology and society. (The flawed software tested by the ACLU continues to be used by police.) —C.J.F.
