“If you care about musicals, you cannot miss this show,” writes the critic Clive Davis in The Times. He’s referring to Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends, Cameron Mackintosh’s tribute to the composer and lyricist, who died in 2021. After runs in London and Los Angeles, the musical has arrived on Broadway, led by the stars Bernadette Peters and Lea Salonga. The show features songs from classics such as West Side Story, Gypsy, and A Little Night Music. “I’m getting the chance to sing some of the most incredible lyrics ever written,” Salonga recently told The New York Times. “I’m getting to dip, not just a toe, but my entire body, into this incredible work.” With a grand cast, lavish sets, and ornate costumes, the production is a vibrant celebration of Sondheim’s legacy. —Jeanne Malle
