In case you didn’t know, it’s Jazz Appreciation Month and our jazziest American company, the Alvin Ailey troupe, joins in with an April 28 broadcast of Members Don’t Get Weary, a 2017 work by Jamar Roberts, the company’s resident choreographer. It’s set to the music of John Coltrane, but as Roberts discovered in his research, “I found it’s also an old Negro spiritual, which I thought was a great way to connect with the Ailey company, and with Alvin and his signature work Revelations, which is an entire ballet of spirituals.” —L.J.
