Spotted puppies may come and go, but the success of any version of 101 Dalmations rests on the capacity of its antiheroine, Cruella de Vil, to terrify and thrill. Chisel-cheekboned English actress Kate Fleetwood (a 2008 Tony nominee as Lady Macbeth) is great casting as Cruella in this new musical version, with book by acclaimed playwright Zinnie Harris, and music and lyrics by Douglas Hodge. —K.F.
