My Favorite Things

For over three decades, Drake’s was best known for its handcrafted neckwear—that is, until Michael Hill took the reins in 2010. Under the Savile Row-trained designer’s creative direction, the British menswear brand has expanded its offerings to include relaxed tailoring and built-for-life footwear (not to mention the occasional must-have collaboration, the most recent of which celebrates the renowned London restaurant St. John). Below, Hill reveals his own sartorial signatures—and more of his everyday essentials

Drake’s

$495

Yuketen ‘Yukus’ Type 1 Suede Chukka Boot

“You need a pair of these in your wardrobe. One of the great shoes and immaculately made in America, as they have been for decades. ”

No. 3

$49.99

London Dry Gin

“My favorite gin for a martini. I’ve got a glass that my grandmother gave me, a heavy duty sort of thing. Add some Noilly Prat or Dolin vermouth and some No. 3 Gin from our friends at Berry Bros. Keep that in the freezer. Then I like a twist, but I also like an olive, frankly. With a seat outside as the sun sets. Perfection.”

Filson

$475

Rugged Twill Small Duffle Bag

“I love the shade of green on this duffel by Filson. It’s the sort of bag that looks ready for anything and is a useful size for travel. I think it will age nicely.”

Drake’s

$1,065

Navy Heavy Cotton Twill Games Blazer

“The latest addition to our signature range of relaxed tailoring, this suit is made from a beautiful Italian fabric. Unstructured and easy to wear… and wear, and wear.”

Jeremy Lee

$29.99

Cooking: Simply and Well, for One or Many

“My most recent book purchase. Jeremy Lee is a brilliant chef and the proprietor behind Quo Vadis, a Soho institution, which he’s just done up with a new bar. My friend Fergus Henderson claims it’s ‘already a classic,’ and I’m inclined to agree.”

Cartier

$9,203

Vintage Tank Louis Cartier Watch

“My dad used to wear a Cartier Tank. It’s a classic. I also like that it’s quartz, that it just goes. There’s quite a lot to be said for that. I’d be very happy to wear it. Dress it up, dress it down. A nice little antidote to all of those big watches.”

Drake’s

$915

Dark Brown Suede Hancock Goodyear Welted Chelsea Boot

“These boots are made in a historic factory in Northampton—the heart of British shoemaking—with a Goodyear welted sole. The calf leather suede is sourced from Charles F Stead, a storied Yorkshire tannery that is the best of the best.”

Ridge

$70

Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

“Ridge Estate is an excellent winemaker from the Montebello vineyard. I love their labels: clean, simple, confident. One of my favorites, especially if I’m visiting America. ”

Parchie

$65

Nap-Time Kids Watch

“Parchie is a great independent brand from our friend Cara Barrett. A ‘kid’s’ watch that can be worn by anyone. Colorful, practical, fun and, most importantly, made with care and intention.”

Budd London

£575

Exclusive Plain Linen Dressing Gown in Iris

“This dressing gown from Budd is gorgeous. If someone was to make me it, I would say, ‘Thank you very, very much.’ It’s a beautiful linen. Sunday morning? Perfect.”
