Can one grow too sophisticated to appreciate a simple sunset? Are there those who can resist the pink light that reflects off silver skyscrapers on a midsummer’s evening or the solace of the sun’s embers on a brisk winter day? At the Kunsthalle Bremen, the sun’s dive behind the horizon is the subject of a new exhibition. Collecting works from the Romantic era through the 21st century, the sunset emerges in a new light. Le Corbusier, Edward Ruscha, Claude Monet, and Max Ernst all attempt to capture this fleeting golden moment. —Clara Molot
