Oct 16, 2022 – Jan 16, 2023
1001 Bissonnet St, Houston, TX 77005, USA

In 1966, when the photographer Gordon Parks was almost 55, he went on the road with Stokely Carmichael, the renowned Black Power activist. The pair spent a year together, and over the course of protests, controversial speeches, and groundbreaking moments, Parks took more than 700 photographs of the young leader. There were also calmer moments behind the scenes, the quiet deliberation of next moves from a Los Angeles living room. In 1967, Parks’s photos were published in Life magazine and the images drew much attention. This exhibition presents the photographs from that spread, as well as 50 additional pictures and contact sheets, some never before on view. —Elena Clavarino
