Every 10 years, by international consent, concert halls around the world observe a year of Czech music. At Carnegie Hall, the festivities are bundled into a busy week. Semyon Bychkov leads Prague’s resplendent Czech Philharmonic in Dvořak, Smetana, Mahler, and Janáček on December 3 to 5, each program fortified by the presence of a top-drawer international soloist (Yo-Yo Ma, Gil Shaham, Daniil Trifonov). The Prague Philharmonic Choir, onboard for Janáček’s explosive Glagolitic Mass on December 5, resounds the following evening in the intimacy of Zankel Hall. And on December 7, the Pavel Haas Quartet wraps up the week of Czech music with selections of Smetana, Janáček, and Suk at Weill Hall. —Matthew Gurewitsch
