Walter Price grew up in Macon, Georgia, in the 1990s, then served in the U.S. Navy for four years. The military wasn’t easy, but Price’s service meant that upon his return, he could enter art school on the GI Bill. Once there, Price developed a unique painterly language—equal parts idiosyncratic, with stray marks and vivid colors, and figurative, with recognizable objects like sofas, cars, and small hats floating on the surface of the canvas. This exhibition of 20 paintings, dating from 2017 to 2023, speaks of race, history, and cultural consciousness. —Elena Clavarino
